Philipp Himmelmann’s staging of Don Giovanni boasts a star cast, Erwin Schrott performs in his signature role alongside Anna Netrebko. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung states “Netrebko’s voice has continued to grow in depth; its charisma and verve are still unparalleled. She gives a superlative performance of Donna Anna’s great arias and pervades this character with truth, poetry and drama: an Anna who – as if she were a sister of Isolde – loves to the point of death. Thomas Hengelbrock, who is tasked with blending this dream voice with his Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, does so with an astounding romanticised reading of Mozart, almost in the spirit of the 19th century, (…) as if he has to make time stand still: linger, right now!”
