介绍: In analyzing this very first Harmonia Mundi Blu-ray release, one must separate the source elements, meaning the staging and especially the lighting effects, from the Blu-ray presentation. If you don’t like purplish faces, you’re probably going to not like this Blu-ray much, but that is a direct result of it accurately reproducing the sometimes odd choices in lighting. When for example Zerlina or Leporello appear before the curtain in relatively natural lighting, fleshtones are completely natural looking themselves. Detail is very sharp indeed throughout this BD, with Giovanni’s elegant waistcoast popping in all its gold and blue opulence. Black levels are consistent, though again because of stage lighting choices, some of the faces (and at times even bodies) disappear into the overall gloom on the stage. The curtain, almost another character itself in this production, is lit at times to give either a purplish or ruddy red cast to its elegant billows, and pops nicely throughout the piece.
